Bogdan Gurgui showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Aristide Fetea in the 3rd minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Aristide Fetea during the 4th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ferdinand Simionescu in the 38th minute of play forced PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's goalkeeper Dacian Ghițescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 44th minute, Ferdinand Simionescu reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Dacian Ghițescu. The goal made the score 2-1. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Valentin Plopșor stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In a very dangerous position, a player in PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 51st minute. Penalty! If Valentin Plopșor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ferdinand Simionescu was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-1. Virgil Jupân's late challenge caught a F.C.BARLAD's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Virgil Jupân helped the player get up and apologised. Virgil Jupân hit a great freekick 98 minutes into the match.
