Waldo Gawletta might have been able to make a better finish in the 45th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Beat Leutwyler. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Waldo Gawletta ran back to his position shaking his head. Hansjörg Pothmer hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Helge Pihlberg to make the kick off. Hansjörg Pothmer received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal.
