The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. David Elodio received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Lionel Paly came out and tried to block the shot, but David Elodio slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 6th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pirmin Jäggi in the 9th minute of play forced SC Freiburg 1904 e.V.'s goalkeeper Andriy Lunin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. David Elodio struck a weak shot in the 10th minute. Lionel Paly didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Freiburg 1904 e.V.. David Elodio might have been able to make a better finish in the 12th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Lionel Paly. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. David Elodio ran back to his position shaking his head. With a little luck, FC Wil 1900's Lionel Paly got control of the ball when David Elodio tried to sneak it across the goal line. Andriy Lunin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tory Pryor, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. Toralf Hell's late challenge caught a FC Wil 1900's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Toralf Hell helped the player get up and apologised. After 19 played minutes SC Freiburg 1904 e.V. got a freekick which was hit by Toralf Hell. Lionel Paly showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from David Elodio in the 23rd minute of the match. When David Elodio came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the SC Freiburg 1904 e.V. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that David Elodio couldn't finish the play. 29 minutes into the match, SC Freiburg 1904 e.V.'s goal looked a bit too open when Pirmin Jäggi came free, but Andriy Lunin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If David Elodio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Tory Pryor made the kick off in the second half. Lionel Paly made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from David Elodio in the 52nd minute of play. Bernhard Zollinger got a throw-in 54 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Pirmin Jäggi. After a defensive mix-up in FC Wil 1900's zone, Eustaquio Brufau stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lionel Paly came out of the goal and Eustaquio Brufau tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Andriy Lunin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emery Heller, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling David Elodio in the 64th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lionel Paly prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 65 minutes had been played when some careless play by FC Wil 1900's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Toralf Hell was slow to take the kick. During this time SC Freiburg 1904 e.V.'s players had a chance to rest. Andriy Lunin made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Pirmin Jäggi sent off a good shot on target. 72 minutes into the match, FC Wil 1900's goal looked a bit too open when David Elodio came free, but Lionel Paly reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Lionel Paly was left in no man's land by his defense there! The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The SC Freiburg 1904 e.V. fans cheered their team off the field, for while FC Wil 1900 had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
