Dida Taffarel made a fantastic save in the 4th minute, when Deilmison van Basten sent off a good shot on target. In the 10th minute, Nestor Paraibano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Toby Major kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Deilmison van Basten got free with Dida Taffarel in the 19th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Deilmison van Basten received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Dida Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Marquês de Herval's Dida Taffarel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 30th minute of the match, managed to save Marquês de Herval from getting a goal against them. Dida Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vilhelm Skoog, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rodriguinho Sousa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alfredo Martins, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. If Alfredo Martins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dida Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Deilmison van Basten in the 40th minute. After 43 played minutes Marquês de Herval got a freekick which was hit by Gaston Gonzalez. 44 minutes into the match, Marquês de Herval's goalkeeper Dida Taffarel had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Deilmison van Basten.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Deilmison van Basten stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of ATHLETICO PRaiano booed when Marquês de Herval was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 50 match minutes in a wonderful position. Toby Major didn't get a good kick on the ball. Toby Major got a throw-in 55 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Nestor Paraibano. Nestor Paraibano could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 57th minute of the match, but Rodriguinho Sousa made a huge save. 63 minutes into the match, ATHLETICO PRaiano's goal looked a bit too open when Nestor Paraibano came free, but Rodriguinho Sousa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 65th minute, Toby Major hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Deilmison van Basten had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Deilmison van Basten struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Dida Taffarel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for ATHLETICO PRaiano. ATHLETICO PRaiano's Rodriguinho Sousa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfredo Martins in the 72nd minute of play. Alfredo Martins could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 73rd minute of the match, but Rodriguinho Sousa made a huge save. In the 75th minute, Deilmison van Basten left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The ATHLETICO PRaiano fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. ATHLETICO PRaiano's Rodriguinho Sousa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to save ATHLETICO PRaiano from getting a goal against them. Nestor Paraibano might have been able to make a better finish in the 88th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rodriguinho Sousa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nestor Paraibano ran back to his position shaking his head. After a rather tough play, ATHLETICO PRaiano's Denílson Magalhães got a free kick in the 95th minute. Many of Marquês de Herval's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Marquês de Herval may have spent more time on the ball, but ATHLETICO PRaiano were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
