PIAUÍ FC's Serginho Nogueira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Albino Gaskon in the 14th minute of play. In the 14th minute, Albino Gaskon left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Capibaribe Stars fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Thomás Toscano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Juninho Freitas in the 17th minute of the match. If Alexandre Netto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thomás Toscano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Demis Katsarolidis in the 24th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Guga Trancoso in the 26th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Thomás Toscano prevented the ball from getting in the gole. PIAUÍ FC's Guga Trancoso managed to work through Capibaribe Stars's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Guga Trancoso dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. 30 minutes into the match, PIAUÍ FC's goal looked a bit too open when Maurício Corrêa came free, but Serginho Nogueira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alfredão Prestes charged in rather forcefully in the 31st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alfredão Prestes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 31st minute, Alfredão Prestes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 40th minute of the match, Alexandre Netto got a very nice opportunity to score, but Serginho Nogueira was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Maurício Corrêa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 45th minute of the match, but Serginho Nogueira made a huge save. In the 46th minute the ball was on its way in behind PIAUÍ FC's goalkeeper Serginho Nogueira, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

In the 87th minute Paulo Batista shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thomás Toscano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A sloppy throw-in by Alfredão Prestes in the 88th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Capibaribe Stars's Wilton Fontes. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Maurício Corrêa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Capibaribe Stars's supporters rose to their feet, but Maurício Corrêa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Serginho Nogueira breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thomás Toscano was out of position in the 91 minute of play, and Mete Gøl capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Mete Gøl really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. In the 95th play minute Mete Gøl came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Thomás Toscano. 1-2. PIAUÍ FC played a much better game than Capibaribe Stars and deserved their victory. The Capibaribe Stars players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
