Marcel Abreu hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. Romando Futebol Clube's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mazinho Prestes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 15 played minutes S.E.R. Caxias do Sul got a freekick which was hit by Samuca Figueiredo. 17 minutes into the match, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goal looked a bit too open when Mazinho Prestes came free, but Miguel Ángel Ortiz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Miguel Ángel Ortiz got control of the ball when Régis Dante tried to sneak it across the goal line. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Romando Futebol Clube's Igor Romao proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save Romando Futebol Clube from getting a goal against them. When Geovani Aguiar fell near the penalty area in the 57th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's protests and gave Geovani Aguiar a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Romando Futebol Clube booed when S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Geovani Aguiar didn't get a good kick on the ball. 57 minutes into the match, S.E.R.
