Lencois's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eugênio Barbosa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After having played for 10 minutes, Eugênio Barbosa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gabriel Motta in the 13th minute of play forced Lencois's goalkeeper Sidnei Mendonça to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sidnei Mendonça stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gino Rezende's shot from short distance in the 14th minute. After 16 minutes, Rodriguinho Salgado mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lencois and the S.C. Corinthians Paulista players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 16 played minutes Lencois got a freekick which was hit by Rodriguinho Salgado. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gino Rezende in the 20th minute of play forced Lencois's goalkeeper Sidnei Mendonça to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 23rd minute Afonso Nascimento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sidnei Mendonça saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. S.C. Corinthians Paulista's Luís Eduardo da Fonseca proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 26th minute of the match, managed to save S.C. Corinthians Paulista from getting a goal against them. Gabriel Motta might have been able to make a better finish in the 29th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Sidnei Mendonça. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gabriel Motta ran back to his position shaking his head. 31 minutes into the game, S.C. Corinthians Paulista's Afonso Nascimento nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Sidnei Mendonça made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Afonso Nascimento received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Sidnei Mendonça tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sidnei Mendonça didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Afonso Nascimento went, in the 42nd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. In the 48th minute, Gino Rezende made a precise shot to the right of Sidnei Mendonça. Lencois's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-3. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Sidnei Mendonça made a fantastic save in the 61st minute, when Gino Rezende sent off a good shot on target. In the 61st match minute, Lencois was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rodriguinho Salgado to maneuver through the defense. In the 66th minute Gino Rezende shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sidnei Mendonça saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luiz Fábio Viana hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. After 70 minutes, Gabriel Motta mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the S.C. Corinthians Paulista and the Lencois players grew even worse after the yellow card. Eugênio Barbosa charged in rather forcefully in the 71st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Eugênio Barbosa the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Eugênio Barbosa hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. In the 77th minute, S.C. Corinthians Paulista's Afonso Nascimento dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-4. In the 82nd minute, Gino Rezende left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The S.C. Corinthians Paulista fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-5. When Eugênio Barbosa came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the Lencois fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eugênio Barbosa couldn't finish the play. Albertinho Britto could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 90th minute of the match, but Sidnei Mendonça made a huge save. In the 92nd match minute, S.C. Corinthians Paulista was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Afonso Nascimento to maneuver through the defense. When the match was over S.C. Corinthians Paulista could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Lencois throughout the match.
