The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 1-0 became the score in the 3rd minute when Luisinho Mattos elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. 7 minutes into the game, Real Cruzeiro FC's Fabiano Carneiro nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Hélder da Silveira made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. In the 9th minute, Fabiano Carneiro left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Real Cruzeiro FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. 14 minutes into the game, Edgar da Costa cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-3. Hélder da Silveira was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edgar da Costa in the 18th minute of play forced F.C. Carmo De Kiev's goalkeeper Hélder da Silveira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Olavo Borges's late challenge caught a Real Cruzeiro FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Olavo Borges helped the player get up and apologised. Edgar da Costa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Hélder da Silveira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. F.C. Carmo De Kiev's Hélder da Silveira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fabiano Carneiro in the 25th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fabiano Carneiro in the 26th minute of play forced F.C. Carmo De Kiev's goalkeeper Hélder da Silveira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Wilton Freitas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 35 minutes into the match, F.C. Carmo De Kiev's goal looked a bit too open when Severino da Costa came free, but Hélder da Silveira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 36 minutes F.C. Carmo De Kiev's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Tales Batista who took care of the corner kick. Hélder da Silveira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edgar da Costa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Edgar da Costa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Hélder da Silveira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Severino da Costa to make the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Severino da Costa dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Hélder da Silveira, 1-4. In the 55th minute, Luisinho Mattos ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Andrézinho Mattos was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-4. Belmiro Saldanha hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. Severino da Costa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Hélder da Silveira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 72 minutes into the match, F.C. Carmo De Kiev's goalkeeper Hélder da Silveira had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Edgar da Costa. F.C. Carmo De Kiev's Hélder da Silveira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Severino da Costa in the 74th minute of play. If Júlio Arruda had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Severino da Costa fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Real Cruzeiro FC's protests and gave Severino da Costa a yellow card for diving instead. 82 minutes into the game, Luisinho Mattos cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-4. Andrézinho Mattos was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 86 minutes of play, F.C. Carmo De Kiev's Wilton Freitas made it 4-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Andrézinho Mattos was left in no man's land by his defense there! Edgar da Costa succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 4-5 in the 93rd playminute. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Real Cruzeiro FC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
