Simon Rainey took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Albert Cancino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 12 minutes into the match, Flagstaff's goal looked a bit too open when Timeteo Amthauer came free, but Simon Rainey reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Simon Rainey didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Maxi López went, in the 14th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Viviano Amenábar's late challenge caught a Flagstaff's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Viviano Amenábar helped the player get up and apologised. In the 16th minute, Viviano Amenábar hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Simon Rainey made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Maxi López in the 20th minute of play. Henrico Abeliuk might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Simon Rainey. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Henrico Abeliuk ran back to his position shaking his head. After a defensive mix-up in C.A. Peñarol's zone, Kirk Miranda stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Samuel Benavente came out of the goal and Kirk Miranda tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Francisco Martín Brito had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Flagstaff's Simon Rainey played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Timeteo Amthauer in the 28th minute of play. After 32 played minutes C.A. Peñarol got a freekick which was hit by Savier Marsal. Archie Adams charged in rather forcefully in the 35th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Archie Adams the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 36th match minute, Flagstaff was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Archie Adams to maneuver through the defense. In the 37th minute of the match Iván Luis Coulin sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Simon Rainey skillfully saved the ball. Dane Moser hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Maxi López took the ball and in the 42 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Simon Rainey. Simon Rainey dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. The supporters of C.A. Peñarol booed when Flagstaff was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Martin Cermak didn't get a good kick on the ball.
Kermit Regan hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. After 55 played minutes Flagstaff got a freekick which was hit by Martin Cermak. C.A. Peñarol's Henrico Abeliuk got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Albert Cancino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Simon Rainey read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 64th minute of play. 65 minutes into the game, C.A. Peñarol's Henrico Abeliuk nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Simon Rainey made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-4. 69 minutes into the match, Maxi López had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Simon Rainey. Flagstaff's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Maxi López was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-5. Simon Rainey didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Maxi López went, in the 72nd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-6 was the resulting score. The audience thought a goal was coming when Albert Cancino got free with Simon Rainey in the 76th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 77 minutes, Albert Cancino took a quick shot and it went in 1-7 without a chance for Simon Rainey to make any attempt to save it. 80 minutes into the match, Maxi López dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Simon Rainey, 1-8. Simon Rainey was out of position in the 85 minute of play, and Maxi López capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Maxi López really showed his touch with that goal: 1-9. Samuel Benavente showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kermit Regan, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Peñarol:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Flagstaff:s goal. In the 99th minute Timeteo Amthauer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Simon Rainey saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
