Avengers's supporters rose to their feet, but Placido Castaño was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cortez Nurueña breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Basarab Mutu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 8th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Serafo Azcunaga showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Basarab Mutu in the 11th minute of the match. The supporters of Independiente de Mendoza booed when Avengers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mikelar Almaguer didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 14 minutes of play, Independiente de Mendoza's Horado Setien made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Serafo Azcunaga was left in no man's land by his defense there! Sherlock Holmes took the ball and in the 17 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Serafo Azcunaga. Serafo Azcunaga dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Horado Setien struck a weak shot in the 22nd minute. Serafo Azcunaga didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Independiente de Mendoza. 28 minutes into the match, Avengers's goal looked a bit too open when Sherlock Holmes came free, but Serafo Azcunaga reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Gaizko Burualla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Basarab Mutu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Serafo Azcunaga having to interfere. Serafo Azcunaga showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Basarab Mutu in the 39th minute of the match. Horado Setien received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Serafo Azcunaga tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Serafo Azcunaga showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Basarab Mutu, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. In the 46th minute, Ismael Leiva got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The Avengers players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Independiente de Mendoza were winning 0-2.

Basarab Mutus short, quick shot in the 62ndth minute got Serafo Azcunaga to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Basarab Mutu succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-3 in the 63rd playminute. Gaizko Burualla received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Cortez Nurueña tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Avengers getting a freekick after 76 minutes play. Gomesano Arizabalo hit a great ball. In the 77th minute Horado Setien shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Serafo Azcunaga saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Salomone Costas fell near the penalty area in the 78th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Avengers's protests and gave Salomone Costas a yellow card for diving instead. After 78 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Avengers! Salomone Costas hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. The Independiente de Mendoza fans' excitement grew in the 92nd match minute when Independiente de Mendoza's Basarab Mutu looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene.
