The audience thought a goal was coming when Hardy Tedjamukti got free with Aires Cendegui in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 19th minute C. D. Guayaquil were awarded a corner. Oxarra Bernaldo went to the cornerflag to take it. In the 20th minute, Quinn Mendieta S. C.'s Hardy Tedjamukti ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Aires Cendegui. Aires Cendegui yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. When Zoilo Canta came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Quinn Mendieta S. C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zoilo Canta couldn't finish the play. The supporters of C. D. Guayaquil booed when Quinn Mendieta S. C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gomez Morcillo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Arturo Forcada made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zabal Arellano in the 28th minute of play.
