In the 52nd minute, Albert Reese hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Detroit FC's zone, Rich Braun stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lewis Solomon came out of the goal and Rich Braun tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 55th match minute, Detroit FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Albert Reese to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Hendersonville FC booed when Detroit FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Len Meyers didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, Detroit FC's Lewis Solomon got control of the ball when Rosario McClain tried to sneak it across the goal line. Mel Larkin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Jess Beach tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rich Braun fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lewis Solomon having to interfere. After 65 played minutes Hendersonville FC got a freekick which was hit by Jimmy Dye. Jess Beach took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mel Larkin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 72 minutes of play, Detroit FC's Grant Vaughan made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jess Beach was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 75th match minute, Detroit FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Albert Reese to maneuver through the defense. Rich Braun's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lewis Solomon read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 77th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Rosario McClain managed to get in a good position for a shot. Hendersonville FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Rosario McClain was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lewis Solomon breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 83 played minutes, Detroit FC's Wilbert Kearns shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jess Beach came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Detroit FC reached it. Jess Beach made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mel Larkin in the 85th minute of play. Vern Tipton hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Detroit FC had won after a very even match.
