The goalkeeper, Gerard Parr, was totally fooled by La Junta's Jacques Aviles, who 12 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Gerard Parr showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Benny Mack, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. 17 minutes into the game, Vincenzo Hayes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. La Junta's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Statesville AFC the free kick. The supporters of Statesville AFC booed when La Junta was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vincenzo Hayes didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Carson Davis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wilber Roberson in the 28th minute of play forced La Junta's goalkeeper Asher Gustafson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A hard shot 46 in the game by Carson Davis from a close distance when the talented Gerard Parr managed to make a qualified save. Statesville AFC's players were relieved. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Gerardo McKnight made the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Benny Mack hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Carson Davis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gerard Parr having to interfere. Gerard Parr made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Benny Mack in the 61st minute of play. Benny Mack sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gerry Mooney kicked well hit freekick during the 64th minute of the match. If Benny Mack had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 70th minute, Benny Mack made a precise shot to the right of Gerard Parr. Statesville AFC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. If Wilber Roberson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. La Junta's supporters rose to their feet, but Carson Davis was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gerard Parr breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
