Alpha FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Randall Gates was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. The audience was convinced that Randall Gates's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rusty Conner was relentless in the 8th minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Alpha FC's zone, Freddy Coppack stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rusty Conner came out of the goal and Freddy Coppack tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 18th minute, Gavin Locke hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience was convinced that Freddy Coppack's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rusty Conner was relentless in the 22nd minute of the game. Freddy Coppack struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Rusty Conner didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Southaven AFC. Rusty Conner took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Randall Gates, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Dudley Bliss made the kick off in the second half. Tommie Atkins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rusty Conner having to interfere. Rusty Conner showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Randall Gates, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute.
