After 10 played minutes, Carbondale's Austin Snow shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Eldon Kelley came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Carbondale reached it. In the 12th minute Oscar Carr shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eldon Kelley saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sammy Bryson in the 15th minute of play forced Bakersfield SC's goalkeeper Eldon Kelley to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Oscar Carr sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Eldon Kelley made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sammy Bryson in the 46th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Bakersfield SC's zone, Sammy Bryson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eldon Kelley came out of the goal and Sammy Bryson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Von Gilbert made the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Carbondale's goal looked a bit too open when Von Gilbert came free, but Rolando Lamb reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sammy Bryson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 54th minute of the match, but Eldon Kelley made a huge save. 55 minutes into the game, Darius Reaves was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Carbondale's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Bakersfield SC the free kick. After a rather tough play, Carbondale's Darius Reaves got a free kick in the 55th minute. In the 56th minute Salvador Patten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Lamb saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sammy Bryson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Eldon Kelley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Salvador Patten had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Carbondale's Rolando Lamb played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Von Gilbert in the 67th minute of play. Salvador Patten received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Rolando Lamb tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 76 minutes in the game, Oscar Carr fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Eldon Kelley having to interfere. Carbondale's Sammy Bryson got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rolando Lamb made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Salvador Patten in the 80th minute of play. Cristopher Heller kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. Eldon Kelley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Oscar Carr, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. If Sammy Bryson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sammy Bryson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eldon Kelley read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 91st minute of play. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
