Dexter McCarthy was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 10th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Casey Gates. A collision led to East Moline getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Waylon Pagan hit a great ball. Casey Gates, 13 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Kristopher Marin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Richard Fields tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 25 minutes into the match, Atlanta United FC's goal looked a bit too open when Kristopher Marin came free, but Richard Fields reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 27 minutes into the match, Kristopher Marin had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Richard Fields. Atlanta United FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Kristopher Marin was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. East Moline's Dexter McCarthy proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 34th minute of the match, managed to save East Moline from getting a goal against them. Kristopher Marin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Richard Fields having to interfere. After the first half East Moline were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Charles Haskins was the one to do the kick off. If Boyce Bain had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Richard Fields made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Charles Haskins in the 53rd minute of play. In the 55th minute the ball was on its way in behind East Moline's goalkeeper Dexter McCarthy, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Rocco Duvall sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Charles Haskins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Milo Petersen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Dexter McCarthy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 69 minutes into the game, Emanuel Davies was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. East Moline's Waylon Pagan got his second yellow card of the match in the 90th minute. The referee ordered Waylon Pagan off the ground. The supporters of Atlanta United FC booed when East Moline was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Waylon Pagan didn't get a good kick on the ball. East Moline's Dexter McCarthy played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Milo Petersen in the 92nd minute of play. In the 95thth minute of the game Rocco Duvall who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but East Moline's Dexter McCarthy was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The Atlanta United FC manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing East Moline to win.
