Match Report

Pearl River Park
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0)
The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Gregory Short got the match started through his kick off. Jamel Meyer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Woodrow Patrick having to interfere. 7 minutes into the match, Felipe Booth had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Woodrow Patrick. Energy FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Felipe Booth was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Dario Steele's late challenge caught a Pearl River's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dario Steele helped the player get up and apologised. Energy FC's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Jamel Meyer 11 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-0. If Felipe Booth had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alexander Jefferson came out of the goal in the 19th minute to try and stop a shot by Energy FC's Gregory Short. But to his dismay, Gregory Short quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Jamel Meyer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. David McKinnon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Pearl River's Jamel Meyer got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 36th minute Jamel Meyer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Woodrow Patrick saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Kip Reyna charged in rather forcefully in the 38th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Kip Reyna the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Jamel Meyer's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Woodrow Patrick read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play. After 47 played minutes Energy FC got a freekick which was hit by Gregory Short. Brett Sorensen was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 48th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

David McKinnon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alexander Jefferson having to interfere. Pearl River's Alexander Jefferson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 62nd minute of the match, managed to save Pearl River from getting a goal against them. Alexander Jefferson made a fantastic save in the 63rd minute, when David McKinnon sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Pearl River getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Colin Sands hit a great ball. When David McKinnon came up free with the goalie in the 67th minute, the Energy FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that David McKinnon couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when David McKinnon got free with Alexander Jefferson in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Felipe Booth sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Jaime Mathews fell near the penalty area in the 73rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Energy FC's protests and gave Jaime Mathews a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Pearl River booed when Energy FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jaime Mathews didn't get a good kick on the ball. Patrick Smalls hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. In the 77thth minute of the game Jamel Meyer who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Energy FC's Woodrow Patrick was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 86 minutes into the match, Energy FC's Gregory Short sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Alexander Jefferson narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Gregory Short fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alexander Jefferson having to interfere. Woodrow Patrick took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felipe Booth, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Pearl River had won after a very even match.
