Woods Cross
Spectators: 8024 (Terracing: 6020,
Seating: 1845, VIP seats: 159) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Octavio Hines got the match started through his kick off. In the 3rd match minute, Racing de Carolina was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dalton Klein to maneuver through the defense. Enoch Kay's late challenge caught a Racing de Carolina's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Enoch Kay helped the player get up and apologised. In the 10th minute, Enoch Kay hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 11th minute Weldon Hamlin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ken Darby saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Racing de Carolina's Vaughn Shipman got control of the ball when Jerold Steele tried to sneak it across the goal line. Dalton Klein recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 13th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Racing de Carolina's Chad Poe got a free kick in the 16th minute. In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind Woods Cross's goalkeeper Ken Darby, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 21st minute, Dalton Klein managed to get in a good position for a shot. Racing de Carolina's supporters rose to their feet, but Dalton Klein was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ken Darby breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bill Muller in the 24th minute of play forced Racing de Carolina's goalkeeper Vaughn Shipman to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 26 minutes into the match, Octavio Connors notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Woods Cross's Ken Darby. Ken Darby was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 31 minutes into the match, Racing de Carolina's goal looked a bit too open when Bill Muller came free, but Vaughn Shipman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 32 minutes into the match, Woods Cross's goal looked a bit too open when Octavio Hines came free, but Ken Darby reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Dalton Klein came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the Racing de Carolina fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dalton Klein couldn't finish the play. If Dalton Klein had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Woods Cross's Enoch Kay got his second yellow card of the match in the 36th minute. The referee ordered Enoch Kay off the ground. In the 37th minute, Enoch Kay hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Parker Starnes during the 38th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 38 played minutes Woods Cross got a freekick which was hit by Parker Starnes. Weldon Hamlin, 39 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. If Octavio Hines had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ken Darby took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Octavio Connors, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The Woods Cross players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Racing de Carolina were winning 0-1.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bill Muller was the one to do the kick off. Ken Darby made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dalton Klein in the 55th minute of play. Ken Darby took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dalton Klein, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 59 minutes in the game, Dalton Klein fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Ken Darby having to interfere. If Octavio Connors had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 63rd match minute, Woods Cross was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dane McDonough to maneuver through the defense. After 66 minutes, Bill Muller mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Woods Cross and the Racing de Carolina players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 66th minute, Bill Muller hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Octavio Connors fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ken Darby having to interfere. If Octavio Connors had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Racing de Carolina's Dalton Klein in the 81st minute got a chance for a shot 81st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Woods Cross's goalie prevented a goal. After a defensive mix-up in Woods Cross's zone, Dalton Klein stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ken Darby came out of the goal and Dalton Klein tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Alberto Gonzalez came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the Racing de Carolina fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alberto Gonzalez couldn't finish the play. Racing de Carolina's John Stein quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Mervin Lehman, made in the 90th minute of the game. When the match was over Racing de Carolina could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Woods Cross throughout the match.
