But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Johnny Ludwig couldn't finish the play. 40 minutes into the match, Woods Cross's goal looked a bit too open when Willie Jenkins came free, but Ken Darby reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Johnny Ludwig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Willie Jenkins stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ken Darby dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Monroe Dyer could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 90th minute of the match, but Ken Darby made a huge save. Giuseppe Soto charged in rather forcefully in the 91st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Giuseppe Soto the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Willie Jenkins struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. Ken Darby didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Hawkinsville. If Franklin Irvin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hawkinsville's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
