A collision led to Kincardine AFC getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Jody Wheeler hit a great ball. Eloi Huggins was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 31st played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Fidel Manuel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Stéphane Zamora tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Fidel Manuel's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Stéphane Zamora was relentless in the 35th minute of the game. With a left leg Earnest Devine saved Maynooth from getting behind. 48 minutes into the match, Maynooth's Mickey Grondin sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Stéphane Zamora narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mickey Grondin stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 52 minutes, Emerson Bailey mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Kincardine AFC and the Maynooth players grew even worse after the yellow card.
