Arturo Pedraza came out of the goal and Tomás Oquendo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Victorino Mahns took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ruesga Carter, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Ursino Darricades fell near the penalty area in the 7th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Universidad Catolica's protests and gave Ursino Darricades a yellow card for diving instead. Ursino Darricades kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. Jose Esteban Píriz hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. DEPORTIVO CALI were awarded a corner in the 11th minute after Universidad Catolica's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Fermín Recalde took the corner. The corner ended in Tomás Oquendo almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Universidad Catolica's Arturo Pedraza did a great save. With his leg Arturo Pedraza managed to avoid a goal in the 13thth minute, when DEPORTIVO CALI's Bayron Sojo fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The audience was convinced that Tomás Oquendo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Arturo Pedraza was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. The supporters of Universidad Catolica booed when DEPORTIVO CALI was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gilesindo De Ferari didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ruesga Carter fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Victorino Mahns having to interfere. In the 36th minute, Gilesindo De Ferari hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 44 minutes into the match, DEPORTIVO CALI's Bayron Sojo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Arturo Pedraza narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 53 minutes into the game, DEPORTIVO CALI's Bayron Sojo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Arturo Pedraza made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Podador Blanc's late challenge caught a Universidad Catolica's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Podador Blanc helped the player get up and apologised. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Bayron Sojo managed to get in a good position for a shot. DEPORTIVO CALI's supporters rose to their feet, but Bayron Sojo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Arturo Pedraza breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Tomás Oquendo came up free with the goalie in the 70th minute, the DEPORTIVO CALI fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomás Oquendo couldn't finish the play. Bayron Sojo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. DEPORTIVO CALI's Victorino Mahns played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ruesga Carter in the 80th minute of play. In the 84th minute, Ursino Darricades hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bayron Sojo in the 86th minute of play forced Universidad Catolica's goalkeeper Arturo Pedraza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 86th match minute, Universidad Catolica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jose Esteban Píriz to maneuver through the defense. Tomás Oquendo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. DEPORTIVO CALI's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
