Hortêncio Rosa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eugênio Saraiva having to interfere. After having played for 18 minutes, Amílton Peres managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. VIDA BOA E. C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Amílton Peres was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Denílson Freire came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Joaquim fans jumped to their feet. When Tião Pinho fell near the penalty area in the 82nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored VIDA BOA E. C.'s protests and gave Tião Pinho a yellow card for diving instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Yan de Queirós during the 83rd minute.
