Serafim Esteves charged in rather forcefully in the 7th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Serafim Esteves the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Rooster Top Team booed when Matriz was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Serafim Esteves didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jailson Travassos in the 11th minute of play forced Matriz's goalkeeper Antônio Sabóia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With 19 minutes on the clock, Gabriel Prata commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. The referee gave Matriz a penalty, 21 minutes into the game. The audience was convinced that Válbson Duarte's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vladimir Carvalho was relentless in the 28th minute of the game. But to his dismay, Geraldo Motta quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. Geraldo Motta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vladimir Carvalho having to interfere. In the 44th minute, Dida Neiva hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Válbson Duarte was the one to do the kick off. Geraldo Motta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vladimir Carvalho having to interfere. Vladimir Carvalho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Válbson Duarte in the 65th minute of play. Geraldo Motta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Geraldo Motta could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 71st minute of the match, but Vladimir Carvalho made a huge save. Vladimir Carvalho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Válbson Duarte in the 73rd minute of play. The audience was convinced that Válbson Duarte's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vladimir Carvalho was relentless in the 74th minute of the game. Válbson Duarte sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Vladimir Carvalho made a fantastic save in the 90th minute, when Geraldo Motta sent off a good shot on target. After a defensive mix-up in Matriz's zone, Jerônimo Paes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Antônio Sabóia came out of the goal and Jerônimo Paes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Matriz walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
