After 20 played minutes, Sumauna SS's Enio Severo shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Eurico Velasco came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Sumauna SS reached it. Rafinha Couto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cipriano Baptista in the 22nd minute of play. Cacá Quintal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eurico Velasco having to interfere. Eurico Velasco showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leandro Bueno, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. 28 minutes into the match, Sumauna SS's Leandro Bueno sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Eurico Velasco narrowly saved just below the crossbar. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Sebastião de Queirós fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rafinha Couto having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Sebastião de Queirós's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rafinha Couto was relentless in the 79th minute of the game.
