After a rather tough play, Jaboticabas's Nico de Godoy got a free kick in the 10th minute. After 12 played minutes Jaboticabas got a freekick which was hit by Luís Fábio Rocha. Luís Fábio Rocha might have been able to make a better finish in the 13th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cláudio Chaves. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Luís Fábio Rocha ran back to his position shaking his head. Cláudio Chaves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vitório de Carvalho, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. Gláuber de Alcântara didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 19th minute, which inside left pole to 2-1. After 22 played minutes Flamengo FC got a freekick which was hit by Mazinho Zonta. In the 23rdth minute of the game Luís Fábio Rocha who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Flamengo FC's Cláudio Chaves was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Mazinho Zonta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gláuber de Alcântara having to interfere. Reginaldo Lira who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 27thth minute tested the skills of Gláuber de Alcântara when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 30 minutes into the game, Reginaldo Lira lined in a short shot 3-1 behind a frustrated Gláuber de Alcântara. With his leg Gláuber de Alcântara managed to avoid a goal in the 33rdth minute, when Flamengo FC's Reginaldo Lira fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Vitório de Carvalho charged in rather forcefully in the 37th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vitório de Carvalho the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Flamengo FC booed when Jaboticabas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vitório de Carvalho didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 44th minute, Genílson Messias ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Cláudio Chaves was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-3. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Reginaldo Lira made a kick off. Leonardo Zonta blasted a shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gláuber de Alcântara having to make a save. Flamengo FC were awarded a corner in the 54th minute after Jaboticabas's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Reginaldo Lira took the corner. Reginaldo Lira made a great header on Flamengo FC's corner, it was just that Jaboticabas's Gláuber de Alcântara managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 57th match minute, Jaboticabas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Genílson Messias to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Flamengo FC booed when Jaboticabas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Amadeu Paraibano didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 91st minute, Reginaldo Lira ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Gláuber de Alcântara was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-6. Cláudio Chaves made an important save on a dangerous shot by Vitório de Carvalho in the 95th minute. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Jaboticabas walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
