The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Hamílton Mesquita showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vânderson Romero in the 3rd minute of the match. Mieszko Dranka received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Hamílton Mesquita tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 17th minute Mieszko Dranka shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hamílton Mesquita saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Araguary's João Francisco Gerber got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 22nd minute, Régis Aparecido got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Mieszko Dranka struck a weak shot in the 26th minute. Hamílton Mesquita didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Paraguai. After a defensive mix-up in Araguary's zone, Gilson de Azevedo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hamílton Mesquita came out of the goal and Gilson de Azevedo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Vânderson Romero's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Hamílton Mesquita read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 29th minute of play. After 32 minutes, João Francisco Gerber mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Araguary and the Paraguai players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Araguary getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. João Francisco Gerber hit a great ball. João Francisco Gerber received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Wambasther Neuer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 41 minutes of play, Paraguai's Vânderson Romero made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Hamílton Mesquita was left in no man's land by his defense there! Paraguai's defense didn't have a chance, in the 45th minute, when João Francisco Gerber scored to the left of an out of position Wambasther Neuer, making the score, 1-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and João Francisco Gerber made a kick off. If Vânderson Romero had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hamílton Mesquita made an important save on a dangerous shot by Vânderson Romero in the 56th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Diogo Soares during the 59th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 59 played minutes Araguary got a freekick which was hit by Diogo Soares. Mieszko Dranka sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 66th minute, Araguary's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Vânderson Romero fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Rodrigo Aguiar's late challenge caught a Araguary's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rodrigo Aguiar helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Paraguai getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Régis Aparecido charged in rather forcefully in the 92nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Régis Aparecido the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 93rd minute Mieszko Dranka shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hamílton Mesquita saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Araguary's João Francisco Gerber got a free kick in the 95th minute. Paraguai were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
