In the 13th minute the ball was on its way in behind Caxias's goalkeeper Dadá de Barros, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Cristiano Sena recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 16th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Reinaldo Ortiz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Reinaldo Ortiz came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the Mulambo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reinaldo Ortiz couldn't finish the play. Reinaldo Ortiz might have been able to make a better finish in the 25th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dadá de Barros. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Reinaldo Ortiz ran back to his position shaking his head. After 29 played minutes, Mulambo's Válbson Simão shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Dadá de Barros came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Mulambo reached it. Reinaldo Ortiz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Cristiano Sena, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 39 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Dadá de Barros was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Reinaldo Ortiz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dadá de Barros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Reinaldo Ortiz in the 48th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

After having played for 53 minutes, Reinaldo Ortiz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mulambo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Reinaldo Ortiz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Cristiano Sena managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mulambo's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristiano Sena was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dadá de Barros breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Norberto Vinhas hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. In the 90th minute Mulambo were awarded a corner. Válbson Simão went to the cornerflag to take it. Amadeu Magalhães was a little too slow when Magno Tróia got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 92nd minute. The score was now 1-1. When Cristiano Sena came up free with the goalie in the 97th minute, the Mulambo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristiano Sena couldn't finish the play. Mulambo were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Caxias to leave the ground with a draw.
