With a little luck, ITAJAI SC's Nilson Leão got control of the ball when Cauã Baptista tried to sneak it across the goal line. 12 minutes into the game, Rogério Lima recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Nilson Leão. Rogério Lima showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. 16 minutes into the match, ITAJAI SC's goal looked a bit too open when Afonso Tande came free, but Nilson Leão reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 17th minute, Álvaro Loyola hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 20th minute, Rogério Lima reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Nilson Leão. The goal made the score 2-0. 27 minutes into the match, ITAJAI SC's goalkeeper Nilson Leão had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by André Luiz Trancoso. André Luiz Trancosos short, quick shot in the 28thth minute got Nilson Leão to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. When Sport Recife's Rogério Lima in the 31st minute got a chance for a shot 31st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. But to his dismay, André Luiz Trancoso quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. Nilson Leão made a fantastic save in the 48th minute, when André Luiz Trancoso sent off a good shot on target.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rogério Lima was the one to do the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling André Luiz Trancoso in the 53rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nilson Leão prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 55th minute André Luiz Trancoso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nilson Leão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nilson Leão showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rogério Lima in the 58th minute of the match. With a little luck, Sport Recife's Dino Garcia got control of the ball when Gugu Cosme tried to sneak it across the goal line. Nilson Leão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Afonso Tande in the 61st minute of play. If Rogério Lima had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Álvaro Loyola was shown his second yellow card after 67 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After 68 played minutes ITAJAI SC got a freekick which was hit by Álvaro Loyola. In the 69th minute, Jorginho Eger sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and ITAJAI SC's Nilson Leão didn't even have to move. Nilson Leão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rogério Lima in the 71st minute of play. Nilson Leão showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rogério Lima, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. 77 minutes into the match, Sport Recife's goalkeeper Dino Garcia had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gugu Cosme. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cacá Luz in the 93rd minute of play forced Sport Recife's goalkeeper Dino Garcia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Sport Recife fans cheered their team off the field, for while ITAJAI SC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
