The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Paulinho Figueiredo during the 37th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Virgílio do Nascimento to make the kick off. Válter Medeiros was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Leonel Xavier's late challenge caught a Esporte Clube Bahia's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Leonel Xavier helped the player get up and apologised. After 95 played minutes Araucaria got a freekick which was hit by Leonel Xavier. After recieving a nice pass, Esporte Clube Bahia's Luiz Guilherme dos Santos tried to score from far away in the 96th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar.
