Though ot was a great shot EspartaFC's keeper José Pedro Soares was sill able to block leaving the score board unchanged. When Nando Almeida fell near the penalty area in the 26th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored CGMS FC's protests and gave Nando Almeida a yellow card for diving instead. Nando Almeida kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rubens Paraibano in the 28th minute of play forced CGMS FC's goalkeeper Mazinho Alves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. During the 28th minute of the match Nando Almeida completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Nando Almeida a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. The supporters of EspartaFC booed when CGMS FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nando Almeida didn't get a good kick on the ball. Genílson Ribeiro, 30 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. José Pedro Soares made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dário da Mata in the 33rd minute. Fred Barbosa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rubens Paraibano stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Dário da Mata received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. José Pedro Soares tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Dário da Mata had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cleiton Rezende struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. José Pedro Soares didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for CGMS FC. Genílson Ribeiro took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 60th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Mazinho Alves. CGMS FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in EspartaFC's zone, Cleiton Rezende stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. José Pedro Soares came out of the goal and Cleiton Rezende tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the match clock showed 66 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Simão de Lara sped through EspartaFC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of José Pedro Soares. Rubens Paraibano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mazinho Alves having to interfere. After having played for 75 minutes, Cleiton Rezende managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CGMS FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cleiton Rezende was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in EspartaFC's zone, Dário da Mata stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. José Pedro Soares came out of the goal and Dário da Mata tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 80 minutes into the match, CGMS FC's Dário da Mata sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that José Pedro Soares narrowly saved just below the crossbar. José Pedro Soares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dário da Mata in the 85th minute of play. 86 minutes into the game, Cleiton Rezende was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. CGMS FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave EspartaFC the free kick. In the 86th match minute, CGMS FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cleiton Rezende to maneuver through the defense. When Fred Barbosa, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 88 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Mazinho Alves was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar.
