In the 14th minute, Róbson Abraão sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Esporte Clube Bahia's Diamantino Meirelles didn't even have to move. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Evandro da Fonseca in the 20th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Diamantino Meirelles prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Hílton Garcia recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 23rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 25 minutes into the game, Virgílio do Nascimento recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Alfredinho Bezerra. Virgílio do Nascimento showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. Hílton Garcia in the 28thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Alfredinho Bezerra, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Evandro da Fonseca blasted a shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Diamantino Meirelles having to make a save. In the 32nd minute Virgílio do Nascimento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alfredinho Bezerra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hílton Garcia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. When the match had gone on for 37 minutes, Virgílio do Nascimento put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Alfredinho Bezerra. After some fancy dribbling in the 41st minute, Evandro da Fonseca managed to get in a good position for a shot. Queixo Juniors's supporters rose to their feet, but Evandro da Fonseca was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Diamantino Meirelles breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Fernandinho Carioca fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Diamantino Meirelles having to interfere. If Hílton Garcia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Fernandinho Carioca to make the kick off. When Esporte Clube Bahia's Virgílio do Nascimento in the 53rd minute got a chance for a shot 53rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. In the 55th match minute, Esporte Clube Bahia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Natanael de Mendonça to maneuver through the defense. 61 minutes into the game, Sandrinho Souza was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Queixo Juniors's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Esporte Clube Bahia the free kick. Alfredinho Bezerra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hílton Garcia in the 63rd minute of the match. If Virgílio do Nascimento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Evandro da Fonseca got free with Diamantino Meirelles in the 79th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 83 minutes into the match, Queixo Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Hílton Garcia came free, but Alfredinho Bezerra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
