A well-hit corner resulted in Noel Mello heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. When Abel Batista fell near the penalty area in the 10th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Mecanibais's protests and gave Abel Batista a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Mecanibais's Abel Batista got a free kick in the 10th minute. Acácio Neiva made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Juan de Senna in the 11th minute of play. The supporters of S R G booed when Mecanibais was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Noel Mello didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Juan de Senna managed to get in a good position for a shot. S R G's supporters rose to their feet, but Juan de Senna was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Acácio Neiva breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Mecanibais getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Benê Britto hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hernani Valle in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Zé Augusto Cerezo saved S R G from getting behind. Zé Augusto Cerezo made a fantastic save in the 21st minute, when Manoel Lara sent off a good shot on target. Manoel Lara could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 23rd minute of the match, but Zé Augusto Cerezo made a huge save. When Percy Guerra came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the S R G fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Percy Guerra couldn't finish the play. Percy Guerra scored 0-1 in the 27th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Acácio Neiva, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Manoel Lara got free with Zé Augusto Cerezo in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Percy Guerra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Acácio Neiva having to interfere. Mecanibais's Acácio Neiva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Percy Guerra in the 36th minute of play. 40 minutes into the match, Mecanibais's goal looked a bit too open when Amílton Barreto came free, but Acácio Neiva reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Manoel Lara succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-1 in the 42nd playminute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Arí Trevisan made a kick off. The supporters of S R G booed when Mecanibais was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Noel Mello didn't get a good kick on the ball. Arí Trevisan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Acácio Neiva having to interfere. After 59 played minutes Mecanibais got a freekick which was hit by Noel Mello. After a defensive mix-up in Mecanibais's zone, Percy Guerra stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Acácio Neiva came out of the goal and Percy Guerra tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Zé Augusto Cerezo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Manoel Lara in the 74th minute of play. After 76 minutes Mecanibais's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Juan de Senna who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Juan de Senna got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Acácio Neiva quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Noel Mello in the 78th minute of play forced S R G's goalkeeper Zé Augusto Cerezo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Arí Trevisan's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Acácio Neiva was relentless in the 80th minute of the game. After some careless play in the S R G defense, Manoel Lara kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Zé Augusto Cerezo. The S R G fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Zé Augusto Cerezo should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Manoel Lara in the 94th minute of play forced S R G's goalkeeper Zé Augusto Cerezo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 95th match minute, S R G was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Percy Guerra to maneuver through the defense. In the 97th minute Hernani Valle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zé Augusto Cerezo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
