The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience was convinced that Caetano Sá's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Almir Messias was relentless in the 13th minute of the game. In the 20th minute, Caetano Zanette ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Almir Messias was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. 23 minutes into the game, Nelsinho Bertassi was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Wiig's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave C.R. Flamengo the free kick. In the 23rd match minute, Wiig was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nelsinho Bertassi to maneuver through the defense. If Caetano Zanette had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. José Vítor Vieira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bruninho Cosme, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. 35 minutes into the game, Wiig's Fabinho Batista nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Bruninho Cosme made a kick off. When Bernardinho Vianna came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the C.R. Flamengo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bernardinho Vianna couldn't finish the play. Bruninho Cosme struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. José Vítor Vieira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Wiig. C.R. Flamengo's José Vítor Vieira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bruninho Cosme in the 57th minute of play. 61 minutes into the game, Bruninho Cosme cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1.
