If Ismael de Senna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Super Mengão getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Silvério de Almeida hit a great ball. When Edgard Messias fell near the penalty area in the 39th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Grêmio Maringá's protests and gave Edgard Messias a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Grêmio Maringá's Edgard Messias got a free kick in the 39th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Super Mengão's zone, Edgard Messias stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Francisco Teixeira came out of the goal and Edgard Messias tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Silvério de Almeida hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. After 45 played minutes Grêmio Maringá got a freekick which was hit by Zé Pedro Sena.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Zé Pedro Sena was the one to do the kick off. 0-1 became the score in the 57th minute when Zé Pedro Sena elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. If Ismael de Senna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Ismael de Senna came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the Grêmio Maringá fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ismael de Senna couldn't finish the play. Grêmio Maringá's André Luís Dantas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Perivaldo de Moraes in the 88th minute of play. Ismael de Senna could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 90th minute of the match, but Francisco Teixeira made a huge save.
