Dagoberto Salles acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 16th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Valdemar Koehler. Dagoberto Salles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hélder Proença in the 18th minute of play. Paulão Vidal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Isaltino Barreto in the 19th minute of play. Dagoberto Salles was a little too slow when Hélder Proença got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 21st minute. The score was now 1-1. In the 24thth minute of the game Isaltino Barreto who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Jacu's Paulão Vidal was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alfredo Faria in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Paulão Vidal saved Jacu from getting behind. The Tricolor Carioca FC fans' excitement grew in the 29th match minute when Tricolor Carioca FC's Alfredo Faria looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 35th match minute, Jacu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vitinho Peixoto to maneuver through the defense. When Alfredo Faria came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Tricolor Carioca FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alfredo Faria couldn't finish the play. 40 minutes into the match, Jacu's Hélder Proença sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dagoberto Salles narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Manfredo Fontes took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 42nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Dagoberto Salles. Tricolor Carioca FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 44th minute, Hélder Proença reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Dagoberto Salles. The goal made the score 2-2. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Hélder Proença made a kick off. When Zé Roberto Neto came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the Jacu fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zé Roberto Neto couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Tricolor Carioca FC getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Angelo Bueno hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Zé Roberto Neto in the 56th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dagoberto Salles prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 57 minutes of play Jacu's Vitinho Peixoto was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After 58 played minutes Jacu got a freekick which was hit by Vitinho Peixoto. Tricolor Carioca FC's Isaltino Barreto got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 68 minutes into the match, Jacu's goal looked a bit too open when Isaltino Barreto came free, but Paulão Vidal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Zé Roberto Neto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Zé Roberto Neto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Alfredo Faria fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paulão Vidal having to interfere. After 85 played minutes Tricolor Carioca FC got a freekick which was hit by Basílio Vale. Gugu Rosado kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. If Isaltino Barreto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Jacu's Paulão Vidal got control of the ball when Alfredo Faria tried to sneak it across the goal line. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
