Enio Bertassi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andrézinho Cearense in the 3rd minute of play. 4 minutes into the game, William Pontes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Nacional's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Tupandi the free kick. After a defensive mix-up in Nacional's zone, Andrézinho Cearense stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Enio Bertassi came out of the goal and Andrézinho Cearense tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Andrézinho Cearense had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 24 played minutes Nacional got a freekick which was hit by Beto de Castro. Sandro Pinheiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Enio Bertassi having to interfere. Tupandi's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Luís Fernando Alcântara in the 34th minute. In the 38th minute Andrézinho Cearense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Enio Bertassi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 43 minutes of play, Tupandi's Sandro Pinheiro made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Enio Bertassi was left in no man's land by his defense there! The Nacional players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Tupandi were winning 0-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dorian Trancoso was the one to do the kick off. William Pontes struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Belmiro Proença didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Nacional. Belmiro Proença showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from William Pontes, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. If Sandro Pinheiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Andrézinho Cearense sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 62 minutes, Sandro Pinheiro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tupandi's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sandro Pinheiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Andrézinho Cearense had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Andrézinho Cearense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Enio Bertassi having to interfere. Andrézinho Cearense's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Enio Bertassi read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 69th minute of play. Tupandi's Andrézinho Cearense got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Enio Bertassi made a fantastic save in the 78th minute, when Sandro Pinheiro sent off a good shot on target. After 95 minutes Nacional's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Luís Fernando Alcântara who took care of the corner kick. When the final whistle sounded Tupandi left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Nacional.
