New Life's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave São Paulo the free kick. Tiago Simão hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. In the 6th minute, Celsinho Tinoco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Carlos Augusto Alagoano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Délio Pombal received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Eriberto Branco came out and tried to block the shot, but Délio Pombal slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 11th minute. São Paulo's Joaquim Santana played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlos Augusto Alagoano in the 14th minute of play. Cido Nogueira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 16th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. São Paulo's Cido Nogueira got a good chance for a goal in the 20th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rubinho Terra kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. New Life's Carlos Alberto Travassos got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 32nd minute, Carlos Augusto Alagoano managed to get in a good position for a shot. New Life's supporters rose to their feet, but Carlos Augusto Alagoano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Joaquim Santana breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that Tiago Simão's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Joaquim Santana was relentless in the 34th minute of the game. São Paulo's Joaquim Santana played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tiago Simão in the 36th minute of play. Cido Nogueira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eriberto Branco read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 43rd minute of play. Afonso Pena lost his temper 47 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In a very dangerous position, a player in New Life fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 46th minute. Penalty!

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Délio Pombal to make the kick off. Celsinho Tinoco charged in rather forcefully in the 68th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Celsinho Tinoco the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 68th minute, Celsinho Tinoco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Tiago Simão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 72 minutes, Cido Nogueira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. São Paulo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cido Nogueira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 73rd minute, Délio Pombal got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of São Paulo booed when New Life was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ricardo Trevisan didn't get a good kick on the ball. João Pedro Seco, 78 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. After 84 played minutes New Life got a freekick which was hit by Wilian Loureiro. Eriberto Branco showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cido Nogueira in the 91st minute of the match. After having played for 96 minutes, Délio Pombal managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. São Paulo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Délio Pombal was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. São Paulo's Joaquim Santana proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 98th minute of the match, managed to save São Paulo from getting a goal against them. São Paulo were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of New Life for a fine match.
