Luiz Fernando Brasil tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Toninho Paraibano in the 13th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Luiz Fernando Brasil prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Luiz Fernando Brasil made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Toninho Paraibano in the 15th minute of play. In the 16th match minute, Meaipe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlos Carioca to maneuver through the defense. Osvaldinho Damião was out of position in the 19 minute of play, and Ronaldão da Cunha capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Ronaldão da Cunha really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Meaipe's Gugu Duarte got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Meaipe's supporters crossed their fingers, but Toninho Paraibano was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
