Paulino Richie's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Valério Coutinho read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 14th minute of play. The supporters of Fluminense FC booed when Cruzeiro Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. João Francisco Matos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Valério Coutinho made a fantastic save in the 19th minute, when Geovanni Fantini sent off a good shot on target. If Paulino Richie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Maximiliano Demesio blasted a shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Valério Coutinho having to make a save. Paulino Richie's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Valério Coutinho firmly grabbed it by the left post. Maximiliano Demesio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valério Coutinho having to interfere. If Maximiliano Demesio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A hard shot 32 in the game by Paulino Richie from a close distance when the talented Valério Coutinho managed to make a qualified save. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's players were relieved. Valério Coutinho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maximiliano Demesio, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. 38 minutes into the match, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Maximiliano Demesio came free, but Valério Coutinho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 67th match minute, Fluminense FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlos Augusto Dracena to maneuver through the defense. After 71 minutes, Paulino Richie made it 6-0 with a short kick to the right side. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Valério Coutinho tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot.
