Seating: 1642, VIP seats: 142) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Sílvio Mello kicked off to start the match. After 16 played minutes Macieira got a freekick which was hit by Lúcio Borges. After a defensive mix-up in Macieira's zone, Sílvio Mello stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Michel de Toledo came out of the goal and Sílvio Mello tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Castelhano booed when Macieira was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abel Nunes didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Murilo Nogueira came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Castelhano fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Murilo Nogueira couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Castelhano booed when Macieira was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. José Vítor Queirós didn't get a good kick on the ball. Faustão Machado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nelsinho Pitta having to interfere. After having played for 36 minutes, Celsinho Jacinto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Castelhano's supporters crossed their fingers, but Celsinho Jacinto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Castelhano booed when Macieira was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lauro Martins didn't get a good kick on the ball. Celsinho Jacinto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Michel de Toledo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sílvio Mello, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.
Michel de Toledo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Celsinho Jacinto in the 53rd minute of play. After 59 played minutes Castelhano got a freekick which was hit by Murilo Nogueira. 63 minutes into the match, Castelhano's goalkeeper Nelsinho Pitta had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Faustão Machado. If Sílvio Mello had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Macieira's Michel de Toledo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Celsinho Jacinto in the 72nd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Macieira's José Vítor Queirós got a free kick in the 73rd minute. 77 minutes into the game, Celsinho Jacinto cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Michel de Toledo was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 86th minute, Sílvio Mello got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Serginho Travassos's late challenge caught a Castelhano's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Serginho Travassos helped the player get up and apologised. In the 88th minute, Serginho Travassos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
