After a rather tough play, Botafogo fc's Romário Motta got a free kick in the 18th minute. After 24 played minutes Botafogo fc got a freekick which was hit by Sandrinho Leite. Fernandinho Soares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Waldir Valadares having to interfere. If Luan Jacinto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 34 played minutes Corinthians got a freekick which was hit by Ernani Simão. Pedro Augusto Marquez's late challenge caught a Botafogo fc's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Pedro Augusto Marquez helped the player get up and apologised. In the 36th match minute, Corinthians was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pedro Augusto Marquez to maneuver through the defense. When Cícero Bittencourt fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Corinthians's protests and gave Cícero Bittencourt a yellow card for diving instead. Cícero Bittencourt hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Luan Jacinto could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 38th minute of the match, but Fernandinho Meirelles made a huge save. Fernandinho Meirelles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from João Vítor Pombal in the 39th minute of the match. After 42 minutes of play, Corinthians's Cícero Bittencourt made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Waldir Valadares was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernandinho Soares in the 46th minute of play forced Botafogo fc's goalkeeper Waldir Valadares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

A collision led to Corinthians getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Natanael Nóbrega hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, João Vítor Pombal managed to get in a good position for a shot. Botafogo fc's supporters rose to their feet, but João Vítor Pombal was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fernandinho Meirelles breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 56 minutes into the match, Botafogo fc's goal looked a bit too open when Fernandinho Soares came free, but Waldir Valadares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 59th minute, Luan Jacinto managed to get in a good position for a shot. Botafogo fc's supporters rose to their feet, but Luan Jacinto was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Waldir Valadares tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Chicão Arósio hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. Waldir Valadares was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 72nd minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Lenílson Dracena. 78 minutes into the match, Fernandinho Soares dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Waldir Valadares, 0-2. In the 81st match minute, Botafogo fc was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edson Leme to maneuver through the defense. 83 minutes into the match, Fernandinho Soares had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Waldir Valadares. Botafogo fc's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Fernandinho Soares was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. Cícero Bittencourt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Waldir Valadares tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fernandinho Meirelles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luan Jacinto in the 93rd minute of play. Fernandinho Soares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Waldir Valadares having to interfere. The supporters of Botafogo fc booed when Corinthians was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cícero Bittencourt didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Botafogo fc fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Corinthians were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
