In the 9th minute, Matheus Prado got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Renan Velasco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without João Gaúcho having to interfere. When Guga Borges fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ponte Preta TS's protests and gave Guga Borges a yellow card for diving instead. After 21 played minutes Ponte Preta TS got a freekick which was hit by Guga Borges. A collision led to Ponte Preta TS getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Teodoro Brodel hit a great ball. Matheus Prado received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Erivaldo Prestes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. João Gaúcho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Guga Borges, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Guga Borges sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Silvério Tróia struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Erivaldo Prestes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Goias EC. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

If Matheus Prado had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Goias EC's supporters rose to their feet, but Matheus Prado was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Erivaldo Prestes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Adalberto Pereira charged in rather forcefully in the 71st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Adalberto Pereira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Goias EC's Adalberto Pereira got a free kick in the 72nd minute. In the 79th match minute, Goias EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pedrão Sergipano to maneuver through the defense. Goias EC's Armandinho Custódio was substituted for Chico Arantes. João Gaúcho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Guga Borges, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
