Clemente Vergílio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Norberto Viana having to interfere. Marcelo Toscano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Vicente Passos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kléberson de Azevedo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Renato Moraes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vicente Passos having to interfere. 38 minutes into the match, Barcelos's goal looked a bit too open when Eriberto Vaz came free, but Vicente Passos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kléberson de Azevedo in the 42nd minute of play forced fodder's goalkeeper Norberto Viana to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. fodder's Marcelo Toscano got a good chance for a goal in the 48th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Kléberson de Azevedo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Barcelos's goalkeeper Vicente Passos had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Eriberto Vaz. Through an outstanding action, after 81 minutes, Vicente Passos successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. 2-1 became the score in the 82nd minute when Clemente Vergílio elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. 85 minutes into the game, Raúl Favoretto was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Barcelos's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave fodder the free kick. 90 minutes into the game, fodder's Eriberto Vaz nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Vicente Passos made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-3. Kléberson de Azevedo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The fodder supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing fodder would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
