After 16 minutes, Tião Domingues mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mangalatiba and the Guaxupe players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 16th match minute, Mangalatiba was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tião Domingues to maneuver through the defense. Raimundo de Andrade received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Tomás Pereira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 30 played minutes Mangalatiba got a freekick which was hit by Gilvan Ceresso. Mangalatiba's Tomás Pereira proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to save Mangalatiba from getting a goal against them. When Raimundo de Andrade came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Guaxupe fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Raimundo de Andrade couldn't finish the play. When Mangalatiba's Thiago Matorin in the 38th minute got a chance for a shot 38th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Marcelinho Motta showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Thiago Matorin in the 46th minute of the match. Marcelinho Motta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thiago Matorin in the 48th minute of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Fabiano Mineiro to make the kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Enio Monteiro during the 52nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Tomás Pereira was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Marcelinho Motta prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The Guaxupe players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
