In the 4th minute, Guartela EC's Jairo Aguiar seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Jairo Aguiar the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Guartela EC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Jairo Aguiar had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in Guartela EC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 4th minute. Penalty! Guartela EC:s Vivaldo Zanette showed great skill when he stopped Nilson Dionísio:s penalty. In the 6th minute, Nilson Dionísio left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Salimen fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Juninho Pimenta in the 13th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Vivaldo Zanette prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Maicon Maciel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Carlos Fernando Romero charged in rather forcefully in the 16th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Carlos Fernando Romero the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Maicon Maciel's late challenge caught a Salimen's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Maicon Maciel helped the player get up and apologised. In the 18th match minute, Guartela EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maicon Maciel to maneuver through the defense. In the 19th minute of the match Tostão Guedes shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Vivaldo Zanette showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. If Leopoldo Teixeira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. David Xavier took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo José Pereira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 26th minute Betinho Ferraz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vivaldo Zanette saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Guartela EC booed when Salimen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ronaldão Sampaio didn't get a good kick on the ball. Paulo José Pereira struck a weak shot in the 32nd minute. David Xavier didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Guartela EC. 36 minutes into the match, Salimen's goalkeeper David Xavier had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Leopoldo Teixeira. When Nilson Mendonça came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Guartela EC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nilson Mendonça couldn't finish the play. 41 minutes into the match, Guartela EC's Leopoldo Teixeira sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that David Xavier narrowly saved just below the crossbar. David Xavier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Maicon Maciel in the 42nd minute of play. Gualter Veloso might have been able to make a better finish in the 44th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over David Xavier. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gualter Veloso ran back to his position shaking his head. 45 minutes into the match, Salimen's goalkeeper David Xavier had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Leopoldo Teixeira. In the 46th minute the ball was on its way in behind Salimen's goalkeeper David Xavier, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 48th minute, Guartela EC's Nilson Mendonça ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind David Xavier. David Xavier yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

Nilson Mendonça fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without David Xavier having to interfere. Nilson Mendonça might have been able to make a better finish in the 59th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over David Xavier. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nilson Mendonça ran back to his position shaking his head. If Nilson Mendonça had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 64 minutes, Leopoldo Teixeira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Guartela EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leopoldo Teixeira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Vivaldo Zanette made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Betinho Ferraz in the 67th minute of play. Leopoldo Teixeira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without David Xavier having to interfere. Gualter Veloso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. David Xavier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 82nd minute, Nilson Mendonça made a precise shot to the right of David Xavier. Salimen's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Nilson Mendonça managed to get in a good position for a shot. Guartela EC's supporters rose to their feet, but Nilson Mendonça was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. David Xavier breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Leopoldo Teixeira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. David Xavier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
