João Carlos Maia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Anderson Vargas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Asilo das velhas obesas's João Carlos Maia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Francisco Carioca in the 24th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Asilo das velhas obesas's Clóvis Tinoco got a free kick in the 31st minute. Marquinhos Abreu kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. In the 34thth minute of the game Francisco Carioca who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Asilo das velhas obesas's João Carlos Maia was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The supporters of Bangu Atletic Club booed when Asilo das velhas obesas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Clóvis Tinoco didn't get a good kick on the ball. Francisco Carioca received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. João Carlos Maia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Adhemar Teixeira hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Francisco Carioca to make the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Maicon das Neves got free with João Carlos Maia in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Maicon das Neves hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. The attack was good, but when Hermínio de Sena in the 57th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Paulinho Trevisan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 62 minutes into the match, Bangu Atletic Club's Anderson Vargas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that João Carlos Maia narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Francisco Carioca received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. João Carlos Maia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Francisco Carioca was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 72nd minute. Bangu Atletic Club's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Dito Lucas took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 77th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Deivid de Salles. Bangu Atletic Club's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Francisco Carioca recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 81st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 83rd minute Francisco Carioca shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but João Carlos Maia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Francisco Carioca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. João Carlos Maia didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bangu Atletic Club. Anderson Vargas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but João Carlos Maia read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 95th minute of play. When the referee blew the final whistle, Asilo das velhas obesas could leave the field as winners, despite Bangu Atletic Club having more of the ball for most of the match.
