After 45 played minutes Santos got a freekick which was hit by Jerônimo Vieira. When João Paulo Massa came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the Ibiruba fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that João Paulo Massa couldn't finish the play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Ibiruba's Egídio Galvão got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 63rd minute, Chico Lira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 64th minute, Cássio Mendonça got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 66th minute, Ibiruba's Cássio Quintal seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Cássio Quintal the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Ibiruba protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Cássio Quintal had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 66th minute, one of Ibiruba:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Ibiruba. The referee gave Santos a penalty, 68 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Cássio Mendonça, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Ibiruba's Mathias Medeiros. 1-1. Hílton Branco showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Caetano Diniz in the 72nd minute of the match. Vágner Koehler sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The supporters of Santos booed when Ibiruba was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulo Renato Alves didn't get a good kick on the ball.
