With an extended leg and a bit of luck Roberto Linhares prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Délio Gaúcho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 17th minute of the match, but Armando de Brito made a huge save. Gino Romero hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. After having played for 37 minutes, Wellington Barros managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Itaquarari's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wellington Barros was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 38th minute, João Augusto Silveira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 39th minute, one of Iratinga AD:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Iratinga AD. The referee gave Itaquarari a penalty, 40 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Ediberto Reis, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Iratinga AD's Roberto Linhares. 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Carlos Alberto Quirino was the one to do the kick off. When Délio Gaúcho came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the Iratinga AD fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Délio Gaúcho couldn't finish the play. Itaquarari's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Iratinga AD the free kick. The supporters of Iratinga AD booed when Itaquarari was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rafinha Mineiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. 65 minutes into the game, Iratinga AD's Délio Gaúcho nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Armando de Brito made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. 68 minutes into the match, Iratinga AD's Frank Luz sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Armando de Brito narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Itaquarari's Wellington Barros, in the 73rd minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Itaquarari.
