Dinei Berger hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. Denílson Ribeiro charged in rather forcefully in the 9th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Denílson Ribeiro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Ernani Palmeira's late challenge caught a Pomerode FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ernani Palmeira helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to FC Marítimo getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Ernani Palmeira hit a great ball. Washington Munhoz might have been able to make a better finish in the 11th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dênis Neto. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Washington Munhoz ran back to his position shaking his head. 14 minutes into the match, Pomerode FC's goalkeeper Baltazar Silva had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Caco Senna. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Dinei Berger managed to get in a good position for a shot. Pomerode FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Dinei Berger was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dênis Neto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 17th minute Dinei Berger shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dênis Neto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dinei Berger took the ball and in the 26 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Dênis Neto. Dênis Neto dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dinei Berger in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dênis Neto saved FC Marítimo from getting behind. The crowd rose to their feet as FC Marítimo's Arnaldo Passos slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Baltazar Silva. That made the score 2-1 after 34 minutes of play. Baltazar Silva stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Caco Senna's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dinei Berger in the 44th minute of play forced FC Marítimo's goalkeeper Dênis Neto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 47 minutes into the game, Dudu Romero was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Pomerode FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Marítimo the free kick. The supporters of FC Marítimo booed when Pomerode FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dudu Romero didn't get a good kick on the ball. FC Marítimo's Caco Senna got a good chance for a goal in the 48th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Pedro Luís Silva was the one to do the kick off. If Caco Senna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dênis Neto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pedro Luís Silva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dinei Berger received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Dênis Neto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Arnaldo Passos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Baltazar Silva tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Carlos Augusto de Almeida fell near the penalty area in the 67th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Pomerode FC's protests and gave Carlos Augusto de Almeida a yellow card for diving instead. FC Marítimo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Caco Senna was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Carlos Augusto de Almeida could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 78th minute of the match, but Dênis Neto made a huge save. After 78 played minutes FC Marítimo got a freekick which was hit by Denílson Ribeiro. During the 81st minute of the match Dudu Romero completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Dudu Romero a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. When Caco Senna came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the FC Marítimo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Caco Senna couldn't finish the play. FC Marítimo's Caco Senna got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Denílson Ribeiro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Baltazar Silva having to make a save. In the 90th match minute, Pomerode FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Washington Munhoz to maneuver through the defense. After 95 minutes of play, FC Marítimo's Caco Senna made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Baltazar Silva was left in no man's land by his defense there!
