SC Internacional's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. 25 minutes into the game, Claudinho Pombal was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SC Internacional's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Atlético Maranhense the free kick. The supporters of SC Internacional booed when Atlético Maranhense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Acácio Carvalho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Claudinho Pombal's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but João Augusto Nascimento read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 85th minute of play. In the 87th minute of the match, Igor Motta got a very nice opportunity to score, but Sylwester Nakoneczny was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 88 minutes into the game, Atlético Maranhense's Juarês Custódio nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Sylwester Nakoneczny made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. If Juarês Custódio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the final whistle sounded Atlético Maranhense left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than SC Internacional.
